Singletary Delivers Another Quality Post-Game Rant

There's a silver lining embedded inside disappointing San Francisco 49ers losses in the Mike Singletary era. The worse the loss, the better the chance of a vintage Mike Singletary shout-down directed at reporters in the post-game press conference.

Sunday was no exception, following the 49ers' 34-27 loss to the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. The loss put the 49ers two games behind the Arizona Cardinals for the NFC West lead. Singletary was asked about being two games behind Arizona, and his shouty response is probably being worked into a David Letterman sketch as you read this.

"I don’t care about the Cardinals. I care nothing about the Cardinals. I care nothing about anything else that’s happening in the NFL,"  Singletary yelled to the questioner Principal Joe Clark-style, in comments transcribed in the San Jose Mercury News. "It’s as simple as that. I don’t care about the Cardinals. Done."

Not sure if  the phrase "I don't care about the Cardinals" is going to be turned into a billboard campaign the way "I want winners" was. But if so, then those would be really fantastic billboards.

"I don't care about the Cardinals" wasn't the only new Singletaryism to come from yesterday's post-loss powwow. When a reporter asked coach about the two tight end formations the Niner offense used, Singletary found his inner Denny Green. "You’re asking me why did we do it? You’re asking me all week why wouldn’t I do it. Now you’re asking me why did I do it."

These 49ers may be losing their grip on a possible division crown. But Coach Singletary makes the losses a lot more fun than Coach Nolan did.

Joe Kukura is a freelance writer who can't wait to ask Mike Singletary again what he thinks about the Cardinals.
