Kim Rhode (USA)
Kim Rhode is the first U.S. athlete to win an Olympic medal on five different continents. She has more than 40 national and international medals to her name and has won more World Cup medals than any other female shotgun shooter in history.
Rhode is one of the favorites in Rio to win gold in women’s skeet, where she is the defending Olympic gold medalist.
Matt Emmons (USA)
South Jersey native Matt Emmons is a three-time Olympic medalist appearing in his fourth Games. He is competing in the 50m rifle three positions event where he is the defending Olympic bronze medalist.
In addition to his Olympic success, Emmons is known for dramatic losses at the Games, including in 2004 and 2008 when he lost his gold medal position on his final shot. Emmons is the top ranked three positions shooter in the world going into the Olympic competition.
Jin Jong-Oh (South Korea)
Jin Jong-Oh is coming off two gold medals at the London Olympics. He made history at the Games in becoming the first shooter to win back-to-back Olympic golds in the 50m pistol event. He has won a total of five medals in his Olympic career.
Morgan Craft (USA)
Morgan Craft is potentially Rhode’s biggest challenger in women’s skeet. The Pennsylvania native won the 2015 skeet world title and is currently ranked second in the world. Craft is making her Olympic debut in Rio.
Michael McPhail (USA)
Michael McPhail is one of the top 50m rifle prone shooters in the world. In his Olympic debut at the 2012 Games, McPhail finished three tenths of a point short of qualifying for the 50m rifle prone final. Four years later, McPhail is looking for his shot at an Olympic final.
