Torrey Smith Reacts to 49ers Hiring Chip Kelly

At 10:33am on Thursday morning, 49ers CEO Jed York announced on Twitter that Chip Kelly would be the new head coach of the 49ers.

Ten minutes later, 49ers wide receiver Torrey Smith responded:

"Guess I might have to start running right now to get in shape," Smith tweeted.

In 2014, Kelly's second year in Philadelphia, the Eagles ran 1,127 offensive plays -- the most in the NFL.

In 2015, the Eagles' 1,103 offensive snaps ranked second in the league.

The 49ers signed Smith to a five-year, $40 million deal last March.

He had a disappointing 2015 campaign, registering career lows in catches (33), yards (663) and touchdowns (4).

"Statistically, I know it's not where I want to be," Smith said on Dec. 30. "There's a lot of different factors that go into that but it all starts with me looking at myself in the mirror and asking, 'Did I make the most out of every opportunity?' And to the answer to that is, No.'

"It wasn't a good year for me."
