Townley Haas considered the 200m freestyle at Olympic Trials the best race of his life. A rising sophomore at the University of Texas, Haas won the race at his first-ever Olympic Trials in 2016 by one one-hundredth of a second, beating 2012 Olympian Conor Dwyer and 11-time Olympic medalist Ryan Lochte for an individual berth to the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Haas is from Richmond, Virginia, and went to Benedictine High School.

He placed third in the 400m freestyle at Olympic trials. Competing for the University of Texas, Haas was first in the NCAA in the 200y freestyle and the 500y freestyle. He holds the American record for the 200y free-swimming.
