Who Is Ashton Eaton?

Track Beginnings 

Born January 21, 1988 in La Pine, Ore. He lettered in football, track and field and wrestling in high school. He completed his first decathlon as a senior in high school.

Major Competitions/Medals 

Eaton made it look easy at the London 2012 Olympics. He recorded the highest marks in the 100m, 400m and long jump on his way to claiming the gold medal. 

At the 2015 World Championships, he broke his own decathlon world record to win his second world championship. 

Breakout Moment

2012 U.S. Olympic Trials. Eaton made a statement by breaking the decathlon world record, less than two months before the Olympics. His marks in the 100m and the long jump were the best ever recorded in a decathlon.

Records Held 

Eaton is the decathlon world record holder.

Eaton wears a “cooling hood” to help him recover between the 10 events of the decathlon.

Outside the Track

He is married to Canadian heptathlete Brianne Theisen-Eaton. The couple met as teammates at the University of Oregon. They collect Christmas ornaments when they travel. Once they have kids, they plan on setting up a tree with all of their ornaments and reminiscing about the places they visited.
