The Oakland A's turned in a textbook effort in Tuesday's 6-2 win over the Toronto Blue Jays, the 600th victory of manager Bob Melvin's green-and-gold career.
Their pitchers shut the door, the offense continued to heat up, and they were smart on the basepaths, all as Oakland moved to one game back of the Seattle Mariners in the race for the second Wild Card spot.
Trevor Cahill went six deep and struck out six. Yusmeiro Petit, Jeurys Familia, and Blake Treinen allowed only two baserunners in the final three innings.
Khris Davis homered for the 29th time this season, while Matt Chapman, Matt Olson, and Mark Canha all doubled. All but three A's finished the game with at least one hit, and only one (Jed Lowrie) failed to reach base.
Oakland pulled off a double steal in the third inning, when Marcus Semien stole second and Canha stole home to put the A's up 4-2.
A series victory now secure, Oakland's three-game set with Toronto wraps up Wednesday at 12:35 p.m.
