A's Re-sign Doubront, Two Others to Minor League Deals

The A's re-signed three players to minor league contracts Tuesday, including left-hander Felix Doubront and catcher Matt McBride.

Doubront, 29, is still recovering from Tommy John surgery and likely won't be ready at the start of the season. But he could become a legitimate rotation option should he make a full return from the reconstructive elbow procedure he underwent in April.

Doubront had sewn up a rotation spot coming out of camp last spring before he injured his elbow in his final exhibition start, two days before Opening Night.

McBride, 31, saw action in 20 games with Oakland last season, hitting .209 with two RBI. He spent the majority of the year with Triple-A Nashvillle and provides depth behind Stephen Vogt, Bruce Maxwell and Josh Phegley, who is coming off a lengthy rehab from knee surgery.

The A's also re-signed reliever Aaron Kurcz, who made 46 appearances combined between Double-A Midland and Triple-A Nashville last season.
