Joakim Soria has pitched in 676 regular season and postseason games throughout his 12-year Major League Baseball career. Wednesday night will mark his first ever start.
Soria will serve as the opener, as the A's try to make it back-to-back wins over the Los Angeles Angels. The 35-year-old right-hander will look to get back on track after starting the season 1-4 with a 5.02 ERA in 27 relief outings.
Fellow right-hander Daniel Mengden will follow Soria for the A's. Mengden, 26, has made four appearances this season, including three starts, going 1-1 with a 3.05 ERA. In five career games against the Angels, he is 0-2 with a 7.54 ERA.
The Angels will use an opener of their own, as righty Cam Bedrosian takes the hill. The 27-year-old is 2-3 with a 2.96 ERA in 27 appearances. He will be followed by right-hander Félix Peña, who is 3-1 with a 3.42 ERA in 11 games this season, including four starts.
Offensively, the A's will line up the same way as they did Tuesday night, with one exception. Catcher Josh Phegley will get the night off and backup Nick Hundley will hit ninth in his place.
For the Angels, Albert Pujols returns to the lineup after getting Tuesday off. Pujols will hit fourth and play first base. He is 0-for-11 in his career facing Soria.
