A day after clinching a playoff spot, the A's can lock up home-field advantage in the AL Wild Card Game with a win Saturday in Seattle.
Left-hander Brett Anderson will be on the hill for Oakland, making his 31st start of the season to match a career-high. The 31-year-old enters the game with a 12-8 record and 4.00 ERA. The 12 wins are already a career-best.
Anderson has enjoyed great success against the Mariners throughout his career, going 10-5 with a 2.36 ERA in 22 appearances, including 21 starts. In three outings this year, he is 2-1 with a 3.38 ERA.
Seattle counters with fellow southpaw Marco Gonzales. The 27-year-old is 16-12 with a 4.09 ERA in 33 starts this year. The 16 wins are tied for fifth in the AL.
Gonzales has already faced the A's four times this season, going 3-1 with a 4.00 ERA. In eight career appearances against Oakland, he is 4-2 with a 3.88 ERA.
The A's will load their lineup with right-handed hitters against the left-handed Gonzales. First baseman Matt Olson is the only lefty in the lineup, batting fourth. Chad Pinder will start in left field again, despite taking a scary spill late in Friday's game. He will hit seventh.
