A's Spoil Wakefield's No Hit Bid in 8-2 Loss

Oakland falls to Boston in matinee

With one out in the bottom of the 8th, Oakland A's catcher Kurt Suzuki lined a single into left field ending Red Sox starting pitcher Tim Wakefield's no hit bid.

"I've taken two or three into the 8th or 9th inning, you know I think you've got to be more lucky than good sometimes," said Wakefield.

Two batters later, A's first baseman Landon Powell picked up an RBI to end the shutout.

An announced sellout crowd watched Wakefield silence Oakland's bats most of the afternoon, as Boston broke out for six runs in the top of the 8th having put up two in the 2nd inning.

The A's ended up losing 8-2, and now head to Toronto for a three game series against the Blue Jays.
