Bay Area Basketball Phenom Aaron Gordon Returns Home

A Bay Area basketball phenom returned home Wednesday to face the Stanford Cardinals in an NCAA matchup.

San Jose-native Aaron Gordon, who now plays for the University of Arizona, helped pack Maples Pavilion Wednesday with Wildcats fans.

"We've known him since first grade," said Mike Barbara, who attended the game.   "To see him here it's great. He's a great kid."

The 18-year-old rising star is a fan favorite and has the attention of coaches in the NBA. His parents are on the sidelines cheering on his every move.

"When I do stop to think about it, it seems storybook," said Ed Gordon, his father.

After beating Stanford in a close game, Gordon was mobbed by media and fans.

Gordon also was surrounded by family and friends for a group photo after the game. He knows young basketball players in the Bay Area are watching his every move. He is happy to offer advice.

"Set high expectations for yourself," he said. "Be self reflective and self confident at the same time."

Arizona is set to play the University of California, Berkeley on Saturday.
