Bay Area Boxing Fans Cheering for Gilroy's Robert ‘The Ghost' Guerrero's Return to the Ring

Bay Area boxing fans cheered on a local hero Saturday night, as Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero of Gilroy returned to the ring after taking a 13-month absence.

Guerrero was back in the ring Saturday night taking on Yoshihiro Kamegai. He won by decision after 12 rounds in the ring.

Despite duking it out in boxing matches, friends of Guerrero said he is very modest and still hangs out in his hometown.

Guerrero put his career on hold about three years ago to help his wife Casey fight leukemia. She eventually received a bone marrow transplant and received a clean bill of health.

K.C. Adams said he was joining hundreds of others to cheer for the Gilroy native who has proven himself as a role model both in and out of the ring.

"He’s a good guy with good character, and in today's world when so many sports people do things we don’t want our kids to do, he has a lot of character," he said. "That's what I like about him."

He said Guerrero also runs a football program for kids in Gilroy and routinely mentors kids and gives back to the community.

Guerrero and his wife have a son and a daughter, and a lot of fans who cheered him on Saturday night.
