Forecast Shows Bay Area Rain Likely for Super Bowl 50 Week

The latest forecast model predicts Super Bowl fans might get wet.

The prospect of rain falling in the San Francisco Bay Area just before, during or right after Super Bowl 50 has just increased.

The long-range Global Forecast System model, as of Jan. 21 at 10:25 p.m., is hinting at two potential storms from Feb. 4 into Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 7. The above graphic shows the GFS model and how storms might line up in the Pacific if the GFS forecast models keep this trend in place.

If this rainy outcome were to happen Feb. 4 into Super Bowl Sunday, the GFS model shows a potential 1-2 inch rainfall.

Remember, it’s still very early when it comes to weather predictions, and we’ll likely see timing and intensity fluctuations. However, with El Niño in full swing, history shows that our wettest month during an El Niño pattern is February.

So, for now, it might be wise to plan for rain.
