Bears Loss Secures the No. 24 Overall NFL Draft Pick for Raiders

The Raiders secured the No. 4 overall NFL draft pick after concluding a disappointing 4-12 season. They locked up the No. 24 pick Sunday night after the Bears lost to the Eagles in the NFC wild card round.

That high draft pick is part of a larger compensation package acquired from Chicago for All-Pro edge rusher Khalil Mack on Sept. 1.

The Raiders have one first-round draft slot uncertain. They got one from Dallas for Amari Cooper, though that draft pick won't be set until the Cowboys are eliminated from the NFC playoffs or win the Super Bowl.

This NFL draft is a major part of Jon Gruden's rebuilding project, a task undertaken during his first year back as Raiders head coach/chief personnel man.

The Raiders also have a high pick in the second round that belongs to them, meaning they have four picks in the first 35 selections.

The Bears had a chance to win Sunday's playoff against Philadelphia, but kicker Cody Parkey missed a 43-yard field goal near the end of the contest at Soldier Field.

The Raiders also have Chicago's 2020 first-round pick coming in exchange for Mack, though they shockingly gave up a 2020 second-round pick in the deal.
