Bob Myers Never Felt Like Iguodala Was ‘that Close' to Leaving Warriors for Rockets

Andre Iguodala was an unrestricted free agent last summer.

He ultimately re-signed with the Warriors on a 3-year deal worth $48 million guaranteed.

Hey Bob Myers -- was there ever a point when you were worried about Iguodala signing with the Rockets?

"I had heard that. In that moment of unrestricted free agency, anything can happen," the Warriors' GM told Greg Papa and Bonta Hill on 95.7 The Game. "And I've seen a lot of different things happen. I don't know how to say this the right way -- I wasn't as much worried about where Andre would have gone. I know maybe some people think that's being disingenuous, but we really just wanted to keep him for ourselves.

"If it had been close to him leaving anywhere else, maybe he would have conveyed that. I don't know how close it was -- I know there's been stuff that was written -- but I never felt like a situation like that was that close."

Well, according to ESPN's Chris Haynes, Iguodala was very, very close to leaving Golden State.

Back in September, Haynes reported the details of the Andre Iguodala free-agent sweepstakes.

The 2015 NBA Finals MVP met with Houston the morning of July 1 in Los Angeles.

An excerpt from Haynes' story:

"The Warriors were granted a last-minute assembly out of respect ... they didn't know it, but Iguodala's objective in sitting down with them was to personally say goodbye.

"Iguodala wasn't budging from his request to make at least $16 million per year. If the Warriors didn't improve their offer, he was signing with the Rockets, sources said."

Well, the Warriors did improve their offer and Iguodala will be suiting up for Golden State on Monday night in Houston.

"They didn't get Andre. We got Andre, which is good for us, but man did they really do a nice job filling out that roster with some really good pieces," Myers said.
