Boxing Fans Crowd Bay Area Bars for Pacquiao-Mayweather Fight

It's being called the fight of the century.

Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. are stepping into the ring at MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Coming into Saturday's fight, Mayweather is undefeated and also the highest-paid athlete in the world. But Pacquiao has eight world titles.

More than 300 people crowded into the Brit Pub and Restaurant in downtown San Jose Saturday night to see the big fight. Fans are hoping the fight lives up to the hype.

"This is like the fight of the new century--Ali, Tyson--that era is gone," boxing fan Rudy Solorio said. "This is the new era of boxing. I'm all for Pacquiao, but Mayweather may win."

Many are hoping this fight will breathe new life into the sport of boxing.

"I have been waiting for this sport for so long," Tatiana Meras said. "I'm just really hoping Mayweather defeats Pacquiao."

But no matter who they're rooting for, these boxing fans said they are guaranteed a good fight. One that is seven years in the making.

Many Filipino restaurants across the Bay Area are closed during the fight. That's because owners are at home cheering for fellow Filipino Pacquio.
