PORTLAND, Ore. -- Records were made to be broken. Buddy Hield did just that.
The Kings guard tied Damian Lillard's NBA record of 599 made 3-pointers in the first three years of his career during Sunday's home finale in Sacramento. Hield then launched and hit another long-range shot with 9:22 remaining in the first quarter during Wednesday night's season finale against Lillard's Portland Trail Blazers to establish a new benchmark with 600.

It appeared Hield would set the record at home against the Pelicans, but he missed his first five looks before dropping in his 274th 3-pointer of the season. That shot moved him to within one of Lillard. Hield hit his second 3-ball of the game with a little over six minutes remaining in the fourth quarter to tie Lillard, who three days later watched his record fall in person.
Hield's shot also moved him into a tie with Warriors star Klay Thompson for the seventh-most 3-point makes in an NBA season with 276.

Hield is having a breakout season for Sacramento. The former University of Oklahoma star came into Wednesday's finale as the Kings' leading scorer, posting 20.8 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 32.1 minutes per game.
