Figure Skating Duo Gets Gold After Nixing Sexually Suggestive Move From Routine

"A tad raunchy, though?"

Nixing a move that one newspaper deemed almost too "hot-hot-hot" to publish may have paid off for one figure skating duo.

Canadian figure skaters Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir danced and spun their team to a gold medal in the free skate event on Monday, pulling off their sultry routine without a hitch.

But the Moulin Rouge-inspire routine was not the one seen during the 2018 Canadian Skating Nationals in January, the Toronto Star reported. It was the PG version.

The duo decided to tone down a move that raised eyebrows at the championships after watching it slowed down on video, they said. The risque lift saw Virtue propel herself onto Moir's shoulders so that she straddled his face. The edited version can be seen at 2:10 in the video above.

The move, which Moir admitted was "suggestive" was deemed "a tad raunchy" and almost too hot to publish by the Toronto Star.

While the routine was designed to be different, with Virtue earlier saying they wanted to make a statement by bringing an "edge or sexuality or darkness," it was cut at the last minute for the family-friendly Winter Olympics.

“What it came down to actually was that when we slowed it down and looked on the video, it wasn’t aesthetically that beautiful of a position, so we wanted to change it, make it a little bit better,” Moir told the Star after a practice run in Pyeongchang.

The finished product sees a similar move with slightly less time spent on Moir's shoulders. Whether or not that helped the team on Monday, the routine stole the show in the judges' eyes (watch it above).

The United States ended with a bronze medal.
