The San Jose Sharks announced today they have signed Jonathan Cheechoo to contract with the Worcester Sharks of the AHL.
Cheechoo spent last season with the Ottawa Senators after being traded along with Milan Michalek for Dany Heatley. It was a tumultuous year in Ottawa for the former Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy winner, scoring only scored 5 goals in 61 games before being sent down to the minors.
Cheechoo, a fan favorite in teal, amassed 165 goals and 126 assists in his six seasons with the Sharks. Cheechoo broke out during the 05-06 season when he lead the league with 56 goals, thanks in part to the acquisition of Joe Thornton.
Cheechoo had entered camp this season with the Dallas Stars before being cut September 25.
