Bruce Bochy didn't take the decision to designate Conor Gillaspie for assignment easily on Thursday.
"It stinks," Bochy said. "It's always difficult. Conor, as you well know, did a lot for us last year, especially down the stretch. This is the tough thing about going through a year like this."
With the tough news, Gillaspie's wife Amanda graciously thanked the Giants and all the fans on Thursday.

Even Finnerty's, the famous New York bar that plays host to Bay Area fans, thanked Gillaspie with an in-person video of his most famous moment as a Giant.

The Giants originally selected Gillaspie No. 37 overall in the 2008 MLD Draft. He will always be remembered for his game-winning home run in the 2016 Wild Card Game and his go-ahead triple off Aroldis Chapman in Game 3 of the 2016 NLDS.
Over 19 at-bats in the 2016 playoffs, Gillaspie batted .421 with six RBI.
