49ers CB Robinson on Pace to Return to Action Against Bucs

SANTA CLARA – Rookie cornerback Rashard Robinson appears to be on pace to be cleared to return to action for Sunday's game.

Robinson was cleared for non-contact football activity for Thursday’s practice, the next to last step to be cleared to return to play from the NFL’s concussion protocol. Robinson was on the 49ers’ practice field wearing a blue jersey to signify that he is off-limits for contact.

The final step is to be cleared for full football activity in order to be eligible to play Sunday when the 49ers return to action against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Robinson was diagnosed with a concussion in the 49ers’ 45-16 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.

Robinson started the past three games in place of Jimmie Ward, who has been out with a right quadriceps strain. Ward took part in full practice on Wednesday and is also expected to be available for Sunday’s game.

“Been seeing reps at nickel and corner, back to the usual,” Ward said. “Right now, everything’s going good.

“It feels good, so far. Just trying to get my feet back and knock some of the cobwebs off. I’m trying to get back in the rhythm.”
