49ers' Buckner Set to Undergo Further Observation on Leg

SANTA CLARA -– Rookie defensive lineman DeForest Buckner, the 49ers' first-round draft pick, is expected to undergo an MRI examination Monday to reveal the extent of an injury to his left lower leg.

Buckner left the field under his own power late in the 49ers' 24-17 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, but was taken by a cart back to the team's locker room for further observation.

Afterward, a downcast Buckner had an orthopedic boot on his left foot and required crutches.

Buckner started the 49ers' first four games this season. On Sunday, he recorded five tackles with one quarterback hit against the Cowboys.

The 49ers have a quick turnaround, as they return to action on Thursday against the Arizona Cardinals at Levi's Stadium.

The team is already fearing a significant Achilles injury for linebacker NaVorro Bowman, who is also scheduled to undergo an MRI on Monday. Bowman told CSNBayArea.com that he sustained an Achilles injury. The MRI will reveal the extent of the damage.
