ORLANDO, Fla. -- Quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who can opt out of his 49ers contract after this season, has put his Bay Area house on the market, he confirmed Thursday through a team spokesman.
Kaepernick made an “investment decision” to list his house in San Jose at a reported $2.895 million, he said through the team. The two-story, 4,600-square-foot house, has four bedrooms and 5.5 bathrooms.
Kaepernick has sidestepped questions about his possible return to the 49ers next season. But a week ago, Kaepernick spoke about building on the final games of the regular season to create momentum for the 2017 season.
“We still have an opportunity to win games,” Kaepernick said. “That’s what we have to stay focused on and take it one week at a time. There is that feeling out there that we’re not going to be in the playoffs. But we still have an opportunity to do some good things and build on for next year.”

On Tuesday, Kaepernick said all of his attention is on preparing for the Chicago Bears. The 49ers enter Sunday’s game on a franchise-worst 10-game losing streak.

“I’m focused on Chicago this week,” Kaepernick said. “I’m not thinking that far down the road. But, that’s very true as far as quarterbacks being in a system that they’re familiar with, they’re familiar with the coach, why they’re calling plays, they’re on the same page so when you step on that field you know exactly why your coach is calling that play, what his intent is and what you’re trying to get done.”
Kaepernick has played some of the best football of his career in recent weeks, including a game against the third-ranked Miami Dolphins defense in which he threw for 296 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 113 yards in a 31-24 loss.
Kaepernick is scheduled to make $14.9 million in salary and bonuses next season. He can opt out of the deal to become an unrestricted free agent, and the 49ers also can release him before April 1 to avoid being on the hook for his scheduled salary.
