SANTA CLARA – San Francisco guard Joshua Garnett, a first-round draft pick from Stanford, will join Los Angeles Rams No. 1 overall pick Jared Goff of Cal on the inactive list for Monday night's season opener at Levi's Stadium.
Garnett was one of the 49ers' seven inactive players, as the 49ers will suit up just seven offensive lineman for the game.
The 49ers also announced a lineup change on the offensive line, where Andrew Tiller takes over at right guard for Anthony Davis, who began the week as the team's listed starter. Davis did not practice Saturday and there was uncertainty about his future with the organization. He returned to practice on Sunday, and will play only tackle.
Davis started the first 81 regular-season and postseason games of his career at right tackle, but Trent Brown won the starting job with a strong training camp. Davis will double as the backup to Brown and left tackle Joe Staley.
The decision to de-activate Garnett is not a surprise. Marcus Martin will serve as the backup at center and both guard positions.
On defense, Chris Davis was the 49ers' top nickel back through training camp, but sustained a hamstring injury that prevents him from suiting up for the regular-season opener. Keith Reaser is also inactive.

Veteran defensive lineman Glenn Dorsey, who sustained a torn ACL in November, is not active for the game. Arik Armstead, who was listed as questionable with a shoulder injury, will play in Monday's game.
The 49ers on Monday activated wide receiver Chris Harper from the practice squad. He will wear No. 14. The 49ers released running back DuJuan Harris to make room for Harris on the active roster.
Harper (5 foot 11, 185 pounds) originally signed with the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent in 2015 out of Cal. He appeared in five games and caught one pass for six yards last season with the Patriots. He was released last week, and the 49ers signed him to their practice squad.
