Injury Report: 49ers WR Smith Out; LT Staley Not Expected to Play

Wide receiver Torrey Smith will not be available for the 49ers on Sunday when the club faces the Atlanta Falcons, the club announced on Friday. Smith will not travel with the 49ers on the road trip.

Left tackle Joe Staley is also not expected to play in the game due to a hamstring injury that sidelined him for last week’s game, too. Staley’s streak of 100 consecutive starts came to an end when the 49ers played the New York Jets on Sunday at Levi’s Stadium. Veteran Zane Beadles is expected to start his second consecutive game in place of Staley.

Quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who appeared on the 49ers’ practice participation report with a neck issue, was not listed on the team’s game-status report. He is expected to start Sunday’s game.

Smith, who has yet to advance through the NFL’s return-to-play concussion protocol, was knocked unconscious and sustained a concussion against the Jets. Smith jumped for a deep pass, along with Jets cornerback Juston Burris. The two players collided in the air, and Smith landed on his shoulder and head.

After remaining motionless for several moments, Smith was taken off the field on a cart. He said this week he remembers nothing about the play or the hours that followed it.
