Former defensive lineman Kaleb Ramsey, a 2014 seventh-round pick of the 49ers who never appeared in a game with the team, was suspended for the second time in a year.
The NFL announced on Thursday that Ramsey has been suspended for less than a year for a violation of a league policy. Per league policy, the suspension is for 10 games for a second violation.
Last November, Ramsey served a four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s policy of performance enhancing drugs. Ramsey was a member of the 49ers’ practice squad at the time.
Ramsey announced his retirement from the NFL on July 28 to “concentrate on other priorities in my life,” he said.
Ramsey had an injury-plagued career at Boston College, seeing action in six seasons, before the 49ers selected him in the 2014 draft. He spent his rookie season on injured reserve with an Achilles injury. Ramsey was on the 49ers’ practice squad in 2015.
The 49ers maintained contractual control over Ramsey after his retirement. The NFL on Thursday transferred Ramsey from the reserve/retired list to the reserve/suspended list.
