Source: Two Packers Execs to Interview for 49ers GM Job

The 49ers are expected to have interviews two general manager candidates from the Green Bay Packers, a source confirmed to CSNBayArea.com on Monday.

Eliot Wolf, the Packers director of football operations and son of Hall of Famer Ron Wolf, and Packers director of player personnel Brian Gutekunst are expected to interview with the 49ers this week. The interviews have yet to be officially confirmed between the parties, the source said. The NFL Network and ESPN originally reported the interviews will take place this week.

One of the 49ers' GM candidates is no longer an option, the NFL Network reported. Kansas City director of player personnel Chris Ballard has decided to remain with the Chiefs organization and not interview for any positions.

CEO Jed York fired general manager Trent Baalke and coach Chip Kelly over the weekend. York said Monday he is flexible whether to hire the coach or general manager first.

"We need to make sure that the head coach and the general manager know each other, have a good understanding for each other," York said. "(That) doesn't mean that they had to have worked together in the past, but they have to have a good respect for each other and a good understanding and know that they have similar visions and philosophies on building a football team. And whatever structure is the best with the people that we're interviewing is the structure that we're going to go with."

The 49ers have an interview scheduled for Atlanta offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan on Friday for the coach vacancy, a source told CSNBayArea.com. The 49ers are also close to arranging interviews with New England offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and Anthony Lynn, who finished the season as the Buffalo Bills' interim head coach.
