Ward Sits Out Practice After Concussion Diagnosis

SANTA CLARA – Cornerback Jimmie Ward has started moving through the NFL’s return-to-play protocol after being diagnosed with a concussion Sunday.

Ward appears to be in the second of the five-stage process of incorporating light aerobic exercise. The 49ers return to action Sunday against the Miami Dolphins.

Ward, outside linebacker Eli Harold, defensive lineman Quinton Dial and veteran offensive lineman Joe Staley were not taking part in Tuesday’s practice.

Wide receiver Torrey Smith (shoulder) and outside linebacker Aaron Lynch (ankle) were back at practice after sitting out Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots.
