A's Reliever Liam Hendriks Selected to American League All-Star Team

Originally, we wrote that A's third baseman Matt Chapman would be the lone representative for Oakland at the 2019 Major League Baseball All-Star Game.

I'm happy to say that is not true anymore.

Reliever Liam Hendriks has been selected to his first All-Star team MLB announced on Friday:

Hendriks will be a replacement for Tampa Bay's Charlie Morton, who is scheduled to pitch Sunday, but his recent numbers speak for themselves.

The 30-year-old is 3-0 with saves and a 1.29 ERA with 60 strikeouts in 40 games. As a reliever, Hendriks has a league-leading 0.96 ERA among relievers with 58 strikeouts and has held opposing batters to a .193 average.

Hendriks is also coming off of an AL Reliever of the Month honor for June when he went 1-0 with two saves and a 0.60 ERA with 22 strikeouts in 14 relief appearances.

Oh, and then there is this:

When Chapman was selected, he told the media he wished some of his teammates were joining him in the All-Star festivities -- he got his wish.

Congrats to Hendriks on his selection.
