Longtime A's Infielder Elects Free Agency, ‘grateful' for Years in Oakland

Just two days after the A's outrighted Eric Sogard off the 40-man roster, the 30-year-old infielder appears to have elected to become a free agent rather than accept an assignment to Triple-A Nashville.

In a tweet posted late Saturday afternoon, Sogard alluded to his time with the A's being up.

"Grateful for the years my family and I spent in Oakland. Thank you always A's fans for your loyal support of #NERDPOWER"

Acquired from the Padres prior to the 2010 season, Sogard played in 435 games over six seasons with the A's. In that span, Sogard hit .239/.295/.313 with 52 doubles, eight home runs and 105 RBI.

Left knee surgery on April 20 cost Sogard the entire 2016 season.
