The A's are 21 games out of first place in the AL West and figure to be sellers at the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline. Prospective buyers are already engaging to see what Oakland has to offer.
The Twins, who are 2.5 games out of first place in the AL Central, are "checking on" controllable starters including Sonny Gray, according to Ken Rosenthal, who also mentioned Jose Quintana and former A's starter Dan Straily.
Gray is 4-4 this year with a 4.00 ERA and 74 strikeouts to 25 walks. The 27-year-old has two more seasons of arbitration eligibility and is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent in 2020.
