Giants first baseman Brandon Belt has not played in a game since Aug. 4 due to a concussion. Arizona D'backs rookie Anthony Banda hit Belt on the head with a curveball in the bottom of the sixth inning.
On Wednesday with more time on hands just 92 minutes before the first pitch of the Giants vs. Rockies game, Belt took to Twitter to answer a Giants fan's question.
If you can give a good enough reason as to why you think I suck so bad then I will try and convince the Giants to dump me— Brandon Belt (@bbelt9) September 6, 2017
He went back and forth with several people on Twitter, as you can see below.
Cause they either don't think you will call them out or because they really want a reply. Either way they're weirdos— Brandon Belt (@bbelt9) September 6, 2017
Sports
just making a point. They can say I suck but the overall stats say otherwise. Just wanting them to back up what they say for once— Brandon Belt (@bbelt9) September 6, 2017
Once again these people are too lazy to look up stats. If he did he would see otherwise. Just shows his lack of knowledge— Brandon Belt (@bbelt9) September 6, 2017
Ok use stats to back up your opinion. Bring up my stats from the past 5 years and show me the inconsistency. Show me stats that say I'm bad.— Brandon Belt (@bbelt9) September 6, 2017
I'll even help you out. Go look up the leaders in the team hitting categories over the past years. Here's a hint, I'm towards the top.— Brandon Belt (@bbelt9) September 6, 2017
That's fine. Call me out all you want but be prepared to back it up.— Brandon Belt (@bbelt9) September 6, 2017
Ok explain. I have the feeling you have no idea what you are talking about. Just regurgitating lazy talking points you heard on radio.— Brandon Belt (@bbelt9) September 6, 2017
How? You just stated an opinion and put this years stats up which are not bad. Maybe not as good as I can be but definitely not bad— Brandon Belt (@bbelt9) September 6, 2017
So you admit that you're just listening to someone else and not coming up with these opinions on your own?— Brandon Belt (@bbelt9) September 6, 2017
If he thinks I'm bad then yes— Brandon Belt (@bbelt9) September 6, 2017
You haven't provided any facts. You exposed yourself as someone who doesn't know what stats are and hasn't provided reason why my stats suck— Brandon Belt (@bbelt9) September 7, 2017
I'd say 5 cause that's what I was on teams. Def not 7— Brandon Belt (@bbelt9) September 7, 2017
It is saying a lot for our park on World Series and playoff teams I promise you— Brandon Belt (@bbelt9) September 7, 2017
So in conclusion I will not convince the Giants to dump me cause you failed to make your case. ask your source to help you debate next time— Brandon Belt (@bbelt9) September 7, 2017
Yes I can. Definitely a group of people out there that don't though. Just trying to get to root of why because it's not stats— Brandon Belt (@bbelt9) September 7, 2017
I'm sorry but you're wrong. You can't even explain why they are bad in your opinion— Brandon Belt (@bbelt9) September 7, 2017
That might happen. Maybe not though. Do you know what ops is? Will give you a better idea of a hitter just FYI.— Brandon Belt (@bbelt9) September 7, 2017
You definitely stated but no backing. Better luck next time— Brandon Belt (@bbelt9) September 7, 2017
That's better at least you pointed out this year my avg was down. Finally using some sort of evidence.— Brandon Belt (@bbelt9) September 7, 2017
The fact that you think avg is best indicator of performance shows how much you truly know about baseball. Think more OPS.— Brandon Belt (@bbelt9) September 7, 2017
In 104 games this season, Belt is hitting .241 with a .355 on-base percentage, .469 slugging percentage and tied a career-high 18 home runs.
