Does Buster Posey Have a Post-playing Career in Politics?

Buster Posey is one of the most accomplished catchers in baseball history. At 30 years old, he already has a Hall of Fame resume.

In eight full seasons with the Giants, Posey has won National League Rookie of the Year, NL MVP, four Silver Slugger awards, a Gold Glove, and is a five-time All-Star. While he still has plenty of years left, Posey has naturally thought a bit about what he would like to do once his playing days are done.

But, politics? Well, kind of.

"Public service. I like that better. I don't know. I mean, I wouldn't say yes, I wouldn't say no," Posey said to Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic. "I do have a desire to try to help people and improve peoples' lives if possible, and it's very important for my children to see the importance of helping others."

Posey and his wife Kristen are founders of The Buster and Kristen Posey Fund. They have dedicated themselves to pediatric cancer research. New Era unveiled a Buster Posey Pediatric Cancer Awareness cap in 2016 that has the Giants logo on the front, Posey's initials and numbers on the back, and a gold ribbon for Pediatric Cancer Awareness on the side.

With each hat sold, 28 percent of the proceeds go to support pediatric research and treatment.

"The frustration for me, probably like a lot of people, it seems in the political arena, sometimes the focus is not on improving standards of living for groups of people, whatever group or side that may be on," Posey continued in his conversation with the The Athletic. "It's more about working your way up the ladder, you know, and it's pretty obvious to see that.

"I think whether you're watching CNN or Fox News or whatever it may be, the opinions and stuff you're seeing on either one of those sides are way more to the right or left than the overall population feels. I really do believe that overall, everybody in this country, you might have different beliefs one way or another, but I think we're a lot closer in our core values than sometimes it's portrayed on TV and in the media. I really do feel that way."

When Posey unveiled his New Era cap to help support pediatric cancer research and treatment, he said, "We said we've got to do something. We can't talk about how bad this is. We've got to try to help."
