Farhan Zaidi Tells Giants Fans He's Confident in Trade Decisions, Playoff Push

Farhan Zaidi was pretty busy on Wednesday.

The Giants president of baseball operations completed five trades ahead of the MLB trade deadline.

While Zaidi made several slick moves, it's the trades he didn't make that caught everyone's attention.

A few hours after Zaidi held on to Madison Bumgarner, Will Smith and Tony Watson, he wrote a lengthy letter to Giants fans:

Among the trades Zaidi made, he sent out relievers Drew Pomeranz, Mark Melancon, Sam Dyson and Ray Black. He added former All-Star Scooter Gennett, top prospect Mauricio Dubon and several other prospects.

"I recognize that the pace of roster moves is probably more than you have been accustomed to, but I firmly believe the changes we have made give us the best possible chance to win each day and position us well for the future," Zaidi wrote. "As you well know, over the past couple of months, the team has gotten back on track and we find ourselves right in the middle of a tight postseason race. And given the talent on this team, I like our chances down the stretch."

Entering Wednesday, the Giants are 18-6 in July and sit 2.5 games out of an NL wild-card spot.

While Zaidi didn't get the prospect haul some fans were hoping for, he's confident in the moves he made.

"As you can see, it's been a whirlwind of activity today and the moves we made - and in some cases, didn't make -- position us well now and beyond," Zaidi wrote.

Now that Zaidi has finished his business, it's up to the Giants to prove him right and make a strong push for one of the two wild-card spots. If they can pull it off, they'll make Zaidi look smart for holding on to his biggest trade chips.
