Livan Hernandez, who pitched in 110 games for the San Francisco Giants from 1999 to 2002, has filed for Chapter 13 bankruptcy.
According to reports, the 42-year-old estimates his assests are between $0 and $50,000, with liabilities in the $500,000 to $1,000,000 range. He also owes back taxes.
Hernandez broke into the Majors in 1996 after defecting from Cuba to the Dominican Republic. He signed with the then Florida Marlins and promptly led them to a World Series victory.
It's estimated the right-hander has earned close to $53 million over his 17-year career.
Hernandez last played in MLB with the Washington Nationals in 2012.
In 2002, Hernandez was part of the Giants team that won the National League pennant before falling to the Anaheim Angels in the World Series.
He was a two-time All-Star and won the MVP award during the aforementioned '97 World Series.
