Giants Announce Roster for Wild Card Game Vs Mets

NEW YORK -- As expected, a strained hamstring will keep Eduardo Nuñez out of the Wild Card Game. Nuñez was not listed on the roster the Giants submitted to Major League Baseball on Wednesday morning, and there were no real surprises.

The Giants are carrying 11 pitchers, including three starters. Johnny Cueto and Jeff Samardzija made it to back up Madison Bumgarner, who threw a complete game in his last wild card game. The other relievers: Santiago Casilla, George Kontos, Derek Law, Javier Lopez, Steven Okert, Sergio Romo, Will Smith and Hunter Strickland.

With Nuñez out for the seventh straight game, Conor Gillaspie will certainly get the start at third base. He'll be backed up by Ehire Adrianza and Kelby Tomlinson, who did extra defensive work at third during Tuesday's workout. Trevor Brown will back up Buster Posey as always, and the Giants did not elect to go with third catcher Tony Sanchez.

There are six outfielders on the roster, with Gorkys Hernandez and Gregor Blanco likely providing speed off the bench and Jarrett Parker adding some pinch-hit thunder.

The Giants left several veterans off the initial postseason roster, including Matt Cain, Jake Peavy and Joe Nathan. Rookie Ty Blach, who threw eight innings Saturday, also did not make it. If the Giants advance, a new roster will be selected for the NLDS.

Wednesday's game begins at 8:09 p.m. at Citi Field, with Bumgarner taking on Mets ace Noah Syndergaard.
