Giants Crush A's to Open Bay Bridge Series

BOX SCORE

SAN FRANCISCO - The Bay Bridge Series tends to come with quite the age disparity. The Giants are always leaning on veterans, and the A's roll with a bunch of budding contributors in their mid 20s. On Friday, the Giants were led by a 24-year-old leadoff hitter and 25-year-old pitcher.

Steven Duggar, making his fourth big-league start, scored the first two Giants runs and drove in two more. Reliever Reyes Moronta got the Giants out of the biggest jam of the night, stranding three of Madison Bumgarner's runners. The end result was a 7-1 win on the first night of a six-game Bay Bridge Series that will be played over 10 days. Here's what you need to know...

--- Moronta entered with the bases loaded and no outs in the seventh and Chad Pinder, who had homered already, at the plate. He got a strikeout, liner to third and grounder to short to keep the lead at 2-1. When he returned to the dugout, he got a hug from Bumgarner.

--- Duggar had the first hit for the Giants, a double in the fourth. Duggar got to second in 7.76 seconds, the second-fastest time by a Giant. The fastest? Steven Duggar last Sunday (7.73). The speed is legit.

--- Duggar scored on a balk by Edwin Jackson. Two innings later, he led off with a walk and came around on Buster Posey's two-out broken-bat single to left. He also scored in the seventh after his two-run double with the bases loaded.

- Bumgarner was sharp until his final frame. In six-plus innings, he allowed one earned on three hits, striking out five and walking three. The lone run came on Pinder's no-doubter to left-center. Also of note, Bumgarner probably owes Moronta a steak.

--- Posey, hitting fifth for the first time since 2010, drove in a couple of runs with a couple of hits. Perhaps this is a good spot for him, hitting behind guys who are more likely to find their way into scoring position.

--- File this one away: Jackson threw inside on Sandoval a couple of times and also hit him. Brandon Belt was drilled, too. Chase d'Arnaud took one high and tight. The Giants generally do not throw at other teams, but they definitely keep track when it starts to be one-sided.
