Giants Issue Statement Regarding Orlando Cepeda's Critical Condition

SCOTTSDALE - The Giants released a statement Wednesday morning confirming that Orlando Cepeda is dealing with a serious medical issue.

The statement read: "Baseball Hall of Famer Orlando Cepeda was hospitalized on Monday evening due to a cardiac incident. He remains in critical condition at a Bay Area hospital. The Cepeda family asks for privacy during this time. Please keep Orlando and his family in your thoughts and prayers."

The 80-year-old Cepeda spent nine seasons with the Giants and made six All-Star teams before winning the MVP award with the Cardinals in 1967. He had 2,351 hits and 379 homers in the big leagues. Cepeda was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1999.

Cepeda has been a regular at Giants games in recent years. His last public appearance came in January, when he attended Willie McCovey's birthday party at AT&T Park.
