On Wednesday, Nationals pitcher Max Scherzer was named the National League Cy Young Award winner.
Giants lefty Madison Bumgarner came in fourth place.
On Thursday morning, Mike Krukow discussed Bumgarner's place among the elite pitchers in the game.
"He's never had that one year where they (the Giants) just got a lot of runs for him either," Krukow said on KNBR 680. "The thing about him is that you take him for granted. He's just so steady. There's not a lot of fluff. He goes out there every fifth day and gives you a chance to win -- eats up six, seven, eight innings.
"It's just consistency ... you're striking 200 or more people out, you definitely got an argument to how good your stuff is. But somebody is always gonna have, it seems, a little more fluff in the stats."
Bumgarner went 15-9 over 34 starts this season.

He finished fourth in the NL in ERA (2.74) and WHIP (1.02), third in strikeouts (251) and second in innings (226.2).
Bumgarner has been an All-Star each of the last four seasons, and finished ninth, fourth, sixth and fourth in the Cy Young from 2013 to 2016 respectively.
Over his last 10 postseason appearances, he is 6-1 with a 1.10 ERA, with 63 strikeouts against 11 walks in 73.2 innings of work.
"Where his genius is is his consistency," Krukow added. "And that's what your gonna judge him by throughout his career, and it's eventually what's gonna get him in the Hall of Fame."
