Reds Hire Giants VP of Player Development David Bell as Manager

The Giants were already looking for a new head of baseball operations. Now they need a new Vice President of Player Development as well.

David Bell, who spent one season as the Giants' VP of Player Development, has been hired as manager of the Cincinnati Reds.

Bell and the Reds agreed to a three-year contract, the team announced early Sunday morning. He will be introduced at a press conference on Monday morning. Bell beat out 11 other candidates for the Reds' job.

Prior to joining the Giants, Bell spent four seasons on the St. Louis Cardinals coaching staff, including three seasons as former manager Mike Matheny's bench coach.

During his playing career, Bell spent one season with the Giants. In 2002, he hit .261 with 20 home runs and 73 RBI.
