Report: Giants Sign ex-Royals INF/OF Prospect to Minor League Deal

The Giants appear to have added another former top prospect to the top levels of their minor league system.

On Monday, the Giants reportedly signed 24-year-old infielder/outfielder Orlando Calixte to a minor league deal.

In 126 games between Double-A Northwest Arkansas and Triple-A Omaha, Calixte hit .274/.324/.420 with 26 doubles, five triples, 11 home runs, 43 RBI and 19 stolen bases.

Originally signed by the Royals out of the Domincan Republic in 2010, Calixte brings versatility to the Giants organization. During the 2016 minor league season, in addition to playing his natural position of shortstop, Calixte played right field, center field, second base and third base.

Calixte got a very brief taste of the major leagues in 2015. He appeared in two games for the Royals in April of that season and went 0 for 3 with a run scored.

Following the 2013 season, Baseball America ranked Calixte as the No. 7 prospect in the Royals system. That was the highest ranking of his tenure with Kansas City.

The addition of Calixte comes five days after the Giants reportedly signed former Nationals prospect Chris Marrero to a minor league deal. On Saturday, the team also reportedly signed former Padres reliever Jose Dominguez to a minor league deal.
