Report: Giants Sign Former Nats Top Pick to Minor League Deal

The Giants have reportedly added organizational depth at a thin position.

Former first-round pick Chris Marrero has signed a minor league deal with the Giants, according to Fox Sports.

Marrero, the 15th overall pick in the 2006 MLB Draft by the Nationals, has not appeared in the major leagues since 2013.

In 39 games over the 2012 and 2013 seasons, Marrero hit .232/.272/.528 with five doubles and 11 RBI.

The 28-year-old spent the 2016 season with Boston's Triple-A affiliate. In 131 games for Pawtucket, Marrero hit .284/.344/.494 with 30 doubles, 23 home runs and 71 RBI.

In 2016, Giants' first basemen hit 18 home runs (17 by Brandon Belt, 1 by Buster Posey).
