PHILADELPHIA -- The first big trade for the Giants on Wednesday was a stunner.
A source has told NBC Sports Bay Area that Drew Pomeranz has been traded to the Milwaukee Brewers in a deal that brought back Mauricio Dubon, a middle infielder who is Milwaukee's No. 3 prospect, according to MLB Pipeline. Per multiple reports, right-hander Ray Black is also headed to the Brewers.
Pomeranz struggled most of the season while pitching out of the rotation but has been lights-out in four relief appearances. He hasn't allowed a run since moving to the bullpen, striking out eight batters in 5 1/3 innings. Pomeranz has been sitting 95-95 mph as a reliever and hit 97 mph against the Padres over the weekend.
Dubon fills a major hole for the organization, as Joe Panik has struggled this season and the Giants have been searching for a long-term solution. The 25-year-old is batting .297 this season with 16 homers and a .809 OPS.
