On May 27, 1980, Carl Yastrzemski hit a walk-off homer to lift the Boston Red Sox past the Toronto Blue Jays.
It was the last walk-off homer of his Hall of Fame career.
Thirty nine years later, rookie Mike Yastrzemski followed in his grandfather's footsteps with his first-career walk-off homer to give the Giants a 3-2 win over the Mets in 12 innings at Oracle Park on Sunday.

With the win, the Giants took three out of four from the Mets and move back to the .500 mark (50-50) as they welcome the NL Central-leading Cubs to town on Monday.
Yastrzemski's walk-off homer ended a year-long drought for the Giants, who hadn't hit one since Brandon Crawford on June 27, 2018.

The last time a Giant hit a walk-off homer in extra innings was Andrew McCutchen on April 7, 2018.
After being released by the Baltimore Orioles, Yastrzemski is having a breakout rookie season with the Giants. He now has nine homers, 27 RBI and is slashing .259/.303/.500 in 48 games.
Mike Yastrzemski is the first @SFGiants player to hit a walkoff homer in his first MLB season since Al Gallagher in 1970 off Bob Priddy.

After the game, Yastrzemski spoke with NBC Sports Bay Area's Amy Gutierrez about what it says about the Giants that they've won in so many different ways recently.
"We proved something to ourselves, that we can win a game when we're down, that we can win a game when we go to extra innings," Yastrzemski said. "So to be able to come through in those situations, it gives you all the confidence in the world."

Through 100 games, the Giants are 2.5 games behind the Milwaukee Brewers for the second NL Wild Card. If they keep playing like this, there's no doubt that they could sneak into the playoffs.
