Buddy Hield Avoids Disaster After Buzzer-beater in Kings' Win Over Pistons

Buddy Hield's buzzer-beater nearly ended in disaster.

After the Kings guard's prayer was answered as time expired in Saturday's win over the Detroit Pistons, the 26-year-old made a mad dash toward the visiting locker room. Hield's sprint quickly turned into the hurdles, however, as he tried to avoid an on-court camera crew.

You get a real sense of just how quickly Hield had to change course with the replay angles.

Everything came up Hield in Detroit. He scored 35 points on 24 total shots (22 field goals and just two free throws), including going 7 of 9 from downtown. The seventh triple helped the Kings avoid starting their road trip with a losing streak, and was one of those off-balance shots that seem to go in whenever a player is really feeling it.

Then again, Hield has been feeling it for much of his third season. He's shooting at a career-high clip from the field and beyond the arc, getting to the line more than he ever has, and remaining on pace to set new personal bests in points (20.5), rebounds (4.9) and assists (2.2) per game. Hield's breakout campaign even has cast a new light on the trade that brought him to Sacramento in the first place.

You didn't need those numbers to tell you Hield is in a zone, though. Just ask the camera crew in Detroit.
