Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson tackled and assaulted a protester Wednesday night after the former NBA and Cal basketball star was hit in the face with a pie at a dinner event, according to the East Bay Express, which cited multiple sources.
Attendees at the event told the newspaper that, during the meal, the protester ran at Johnson and threw a store-bought pie in his face. He then reportedly said something to Johnson, which prompted the mayor to allegedly tackle the protester and punch him in the face "repeatedly."
