ALAMEDA -- Raiders quarterback Derek Carr didn’t volunteer who he voted for in Tuesday’s presidential election. He was asked about Donald Trump’s victory following Wednesday’s bye-week practice, and said he hopes the country will rally together after being so fractured during the campaigns.
“I’ve been thinking about this a lot, and it means a lot to me,” Carr said. “It reminds me of football so much, where no matter how you feel or what you believe should’ve happened or what you wish had happened, we still as a country have to come together.”
Carr likened the situation following Trump’s election to a football team coming together around a head coach.
“It’s like a team. Sometimes you work with a coach you really like. Sometimes you have one you don’t like. Sometimes you wish you have one you had before. All I know is that, if you want to be successful and dominate, you have to come together.
“As a people, we have a new leader that’s going to be in place. He’s going to lay out a vision, but it’s up to us to come together and love one another and serve each other.”
