Edge Rusher Cowser Back With Raiders, Signed to Practice Squad

ALAMEDA -- The Raiders added edge rusher James Cowser to the practice squad on Tuesday. If that name sounds familiar, it should.

The undrafted rookie out of Southern Utah spent the offseason program and training camp with the Raiders, who put him on injured reserve with a concussion just before the regular season.

He was given an injury settlement and then had to wait a certain number of weeks before they could bring him back into the fold.

Cowser had a solid start to the preseason, but flattened out at the end. He remains an intriguing prospect with a nose for the quarterback and special teams ability. Cowser was a popular player in the locker room and with the fan base.

The Raiders released defensive lineman Demetrius Cherry and linebacker Darnell Sankey from the practice squad. After Cowser’s addition, they have one practice squad spot remaining.
