Former NFL GM: McGloin ‘capable of Winning Games'

As Oakland prepares for the Denver Broncos on Sunday and the NFL postseason afterward, all attention has shifted to one question: Can the Raiders win with Matt McGloin starting at quarterback? As least one former NFL general manager believes they can.

Speaking on NFL Network with Good Morning Football's Kay Adams, former Washington and Houston Texans GM Charley Casserly analyzed how McGloin's game.

"He's not a big arm guy," Casserly said. "He's not going to drill those 20-yard outs like Carr. He's not Carr, we understand that.

"Accuracy isn't always there. Pressure: You pressure this guy, the ball came out and it didn't always come out in the right direction. And then underneath coverage -- he somehow didn't see the underneath coverage at times."

However, Casserly made it clear he believes the team can win games with McGloin under center.

"This guy is capable of winning games because ... he's got talent around him." Casserly said. "He'll know where to go with the ball and get himself out of trouble with his legs.

"He's a smart guy. He knows the offense. He'll know where to go with the ball. He has a quick release and he has the ability to move outside the pocket and see downfield and make some plays."

McGloin last started in 2013, his rookie season. He's appeared in three games this year and attempted four passes.
