Injury Report: McGee, S. Smith Out; Raiders WR Cooper Limited

ALAMEDA – The Raiders were missing a pair of key defensive contributors in the first main practice leading up to Sunday night’s clash with Denver.

Defensive tackle Stacy McGee and cornerback Sean Smith were absent from Wednesday’s proceedings, with uncertainty surrounding when they might return to action.

McGee suffered an ankle injury versus Jacksonville and missed the following game against Tampa Bay. He did side work late in the last practice week, but was not seen during open portions of practice.

Smith injured his shoulder against the Buccaneers and it seems unlikely, though ultimately uncertain, whether he’ll return Sunday or after a Week 10 bye.

Left tackle Donald Penn missed practice, but his absence isn’t injury related and is likely a veteran’s day off. Center Rodney Hudson and left guard Kelechi Osemele were out with knee injuries. Both players played every snap of a nearly five quarter game at Tampa Bay, and rest is at a premium this week.

If Smith can’t play, DJ Hayden and TJ Carrie will see more action as they did against Tampa Bay.

Head coach Jack Del Rio didn’t update Smith’s status when asked on Wednesday.

Darius Latham and Dan Williams would play more if McGee can’t return in time for Denver.

Defensive lineman Mario Edwards Jr. still hasn’t returned to practice or been seen doing side work during media availability. He is eligible to return off injured reserve and play Sunday but that won’t be the case, as previously reported. He could return for the Week 11 game against Houston in Mexico City, though he needs some practice time to ramp up for a game.
